The child was hysterically crying, screaming for someone to help. The Niagara County Health Department says it has received confirmation of two positive rabies cases involving bats in the towns of Hartland and Lewiston. The health department says samples were submitted to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center on July 22, and positive results were confirmed July 23, 2026.Law enforcement received a call around 12:09pm on July 17th after reports of an assault with injuries at the Econo Lodge on the 5900 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard in Niagara Falls. Multiple 911 callers told police that an adult male was “beating” on teenagers in the house. . The same male suspect was referenced walking down the street carrying an axe. Injuries were reported.The Erie County District Attorney's Office says 39-year-old Peter Brown of Buffalo has pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree manslaughter. In August 2024, Buffalo Police were called to the 400 block of East Ferry Street. The district attorney's office said 20-year-old Kayshawnna Jordan was found dead inside her bedroom. An investigation revealed that Brown killed his stepdaughter by manual strangulation and blunt impact injuries to her head. Brown was then arrested in October 2025 on a fugitive warrant in Alabama.Governor Hochul’s announcement confirms that engineers and construction crews have begun a $54.4 million rehabilitation of the South Grand Island Bridges. The work addresses aging steel components and brings the bridges up to modern seismic safety standards.
