Homelessness in Western New York has reached a record high, with a 2026 Point-in-Time count by the Homeless Alliance of Western New York identifying 2,188 people experiencing homelessness, a 24% increase from 2025. This is the highest number recorded since tracking began in 2005, driven by evictions, job loss, and domestic violence across Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, and Wyoming counties. The United Way of Greater Niagara presented its annual Caring Cup Award to the employees of General Motors Lockport and the United Auto Workers Union. Firefighters, police, and EMS responded to reports of a structure fire just before 3 a.m. A 16-year-old was hospitalized after crashing a stolen car while fleeing from Niagara Falls police early Wednesday morning. About 2:10 a.m. on Wednesday, a Falls police officer attempted to pull over a swerving Ford Fusion driving without headlights in the area of First and Niagara streets.A man from North Tonawanda is facing up to 20 years in prison for a drug charge, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Wednesday. Officials charged 36-year-old Eli Clark with a criminal complaint for possessing crack cocaine with the intent to distribute it. The Buffalo Sabres return to the NHL Playoffs' second round after 20 years, facing the Montreal Canadiens in a historic rivalry. Game 1 kicks off tonight at 7 pm. Overnight crash under investigation

Buffalo Police are investigating an overnight crash that ended with a car on its side. The crash happened around 4 a.m. Saturday at West Delavan Avenue and Hoyt Street, according to Buffalo Police. That's where "the striking vehicle hit a parked car and then flipped on its side. The driver of the striking vehicle was not on scene when officers arrived." No injuries were reported, police said. The crash is under investigation.

Massive recall by Harley-Davidson

Harley Davidson issued a recall impacting more than 88,000 motorcycles April 28, because some models may eject oil from the fill spout due to a pressurization issue. The recall said the issue could cause injury because the airbox backplate breather port may be blocked, allowing pressure to build up inside the crankcase, which could then shoot out oil.

Golden Tempo begins a journey to the Triple Crown

Golden Tempo crossed the finish line first at the 152nd Kentucky Derby on Saturday. The win is historic, marking Cherie DeVaux as the first woman to train the winner of the opening leg of the Triple Crown. It is also jockey Jose Ortiz's first Kentucky Derby win after 11 tries. He beat his brother who rode Renegade to second place.

"Big Boy," is making a stop in western New York

The world's largest steam engine will be coming to the Walden Galleria this June. The engine, nicknamed "Big Boy," is making a stop in western New York as part of its 'Coast to Coast' tour, celebrating the 250th anniversary of America's independence. Shuttles to see the engine will be provided at the north side of the shopping center June 10 from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm only.

Financing plan to restore the Buffalo Grand Hotel has failed

Another financing plan to restore the Buffalo Grand Hotel has failed at the last minute. The former Adam's Mark was once of the foremost hotel and event venues in downtown Buffalo but now it is ragged shell of its palatial self from years ago. A 90-day deadline set by Buffalo city officials who exploring financing options for the project expired on Wednesday.
